Living in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit
On Sunday 1st September we started to draw together the teaching we have had on the Holy Spirit over the last few months. We spent the morning sharing testimonies of the work of the Holy Spirit, interspersed with Andrew answering questions about the Holy Spirit.
Heart check-up
On 25th August Gill and Clive led another of our informal Sunday services for August. Gill spoke on getting our hearts checked: are our hearts in the right place for God. During the talk she played a video of a flashmob which you can see here:
An undivided heart
On Sunday 18th August our service was led by Barry and Janice’s housegroup based around the request of David in Psalm 86 to “give me an undivided heart”. Tim spoke about the experience of the Holy Spirit.
The Big Picture
On Sunday 11th August our service was led by the Seer Mead housegroup who have just finished studying The Bible Course from the Bible Society. Paul Bosson used the famous passage in 2 Timothy 3, v12-17 to explain how the whole Bible helps us see the big picture.
Freedom
During August several of our housegroups will be leading our Sunday services. On Sunday 4th August the Stable Lane housegroup led a service with the theme of freedom taken from Galatians chapter 5, verse 1: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Keeping in step with the Holy Spirit
On Sunday 28th July Andrew spoke from Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian church in Ephesians chapter 3. He explained how Paul encouraged the church to live in the strength of the Spirit so that God may be glorified.
Life giving water
On 21st July Keith King spoke about the picture which is often given in the Bible of the Holy Spirit as life-giving water. He spoke particularly from John chapter 7 when Jesus said “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.”
What should we expect?
On 14th July Andrew continued to explore the vision of the river in Ezekiel 47, and asked specifically “if we desire the Holy Spirit, what should we expect to see?”
The river of life
On July 7th Andrew spoke from Ezekiel 47 about the vision of the river which flowed from the Temple in Jerusalem as a picture of the endless supply of love and grace which flows from Jesus through the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Mission Sunday
On 30th June we spent the service hearing about the persecution of the church and praying for our brothers and sisters who live in deeply challenging conditions.
