Sermons on Luke (Page 2)
Jesus’ family tree
On the second Sunday in Advent Andrew spoke about how Jesus’ birth fulfilled God’s promises which are recorded for us in the Old Testament.
The Creator Spirit
On the first Sunday in Advent Chris Justice spoke about how we should relate to the Holy Spirit with particular reference to the Holy Spirit’s role in the events of the first Christmas and his ongoing role in creating new life.
How the Holy Spirit helps us pray
On Sunday 3rd November Chris Justice continued to talk about prayer, this time talking specifically about how the Holy Spirit helps us pray. During the talk Chris refers to this song “Touch the sky” by Hillsong UNITED.
The most important thing
On 27th October Chris Justice spoke about how spending time with Jesus is the most important thing. Chris spoke in the context of prayer, and he explained what the Lord’s prayer teaches us about praying. Chris starts by reading from Luke chapter 10, verse 38 onwards.
A people of praise
Andrew used the account of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to remind us we are called to be a people of praise. We discussed why and how others have tried to stop the church from praising and witnessing over the years. And we also discussed what might stop us declaring God’s love to the communities in which we live.
Contemplating Christmas
After the busy-ness of Christmas week it is important to remind ourselves again of the true meaning. Chris Justice led us through a quiet contemplative service, reminding us of the miracle at Nazareth: impossible creation; amazing favour; and incredible attitude.
On the Road to Emmaus
On 8th April Tim spoke from Luke 24, the well known account of the encounter with Jesus on the Emmaus Road, and drew parallels with our own encounters with Jesus on our journey through life.
Pray and don’t give up
On 18th February Chris Justice from Hope Church in Beaconsfield spoke from Luke chapter 18 about the importance of praying and not giving up. As we consider the role of church in mission, this is an important reminder that everything should be underpinned by persistent prayer.
