Sermons on Acts (Page 3)
We are what we believe
Over the next few weeks we will be learning more about the Holy Spirit. On 12th May Andrew introduced this series. He reminded us about the importance of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came to the first disciples and he spoke about the importance of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers today.
Justice
On 4th November, Andrew spoke again from Acts chapter 16, the account of the early church in Philippi. In particular he focused on how Paul and Silas sought justice for themselves and the early church. Even when they had been released they didn’t sneak off quietly, but made sure that the injustices done to them were readdressed. Andrew and Will Luff then picked up…
The church at Philippi
During the autumn we will be studying Paul’s letter to the church at Philippi. On September 9th we started this new series, and Andrew introduced us to some of the early characters in the church as described in Acts 16. Holy Spirit – fire from God
Andrew concluded our short series on the person and the character of the Holy Spirit by looking at the image of fire from God. Next week, Pentecost…
Holy Spirit – breath of God
Reading from Acts chapter 1, Andrew spoke about the time between Resurrection Sunday and Pentecost, which is the time for preparing for the coming of the Holy Spirit. He went onto talk about the imagery of the Holy Spirit as the breath of God.
What is church?
On 4th March Andrew spoke again on “what is church?” and drew our attention to the early church as described in Acts chapter 2.
The characteristics of church
On 25th February Andrew returned to the mission shaped introduction studies which we have been following since January. This week we discussed the important characteristics of church and concluded there are four important elements: we gather together in the presence of God; we are a fellowship with deep love for each other; we seek discipleship – learning and growing…
