We are a Baptist Church, meeting at Woodpond Close in Seer Green.
We are an active lively church, and you can read about some of the things we are involved in throughout this website. In addition to our life and work in Seer Green, we also support mission societies working elsewhere in the UK and overseas, and you can read about that here.
Although every Baptist Church is autonomous, self governing and self financing we are part of the union of Baptist Churches known as The Baptist Union of Great Britain. BUGB is made up of regions and we are part of the Central Baptist Association so have links with other Baptist Churches in our geographical area. We have also developed very strong links with the Anglican Church in the village, Holy Trinity, and enjoy doing lots of things together throughout the year such as joint services on special occasions like Remembrance Sunday, joint meetings for Bible study and prayer during Lent, and joint work for families and children.
Louise Gilbertson is our Minister and Missional Leader.
Louise joined the church as a part-time minister and missional leader in 2021 after completing her ministerial training at Spurgeon’s College in London. Before this, she was a minister in training at Chichester Baptist Church and worked for many years in the NHS. Louise is married to Alasdair, and they have two grown-up daughters. Louise loves talking about her Christian faith, gardening and getting out to enjoy the beautiful countryside around the village.
The Leadership Team of the Church is as follows:
Barry Richardson
Barry is married to Janice. They have 2 children and 3 grandchildren. They live in Seer Green and have been attending Seer Green Baptist Church since 1986 when they were baptised. Barry started his working life as a manufacturing engineer, then as a Technical Director before becoming self-employed in 1992. Janice was an infant teacher. Barry is the church Treasurer with oversight of the day to day financial dealings of the church.
Tim Cox
Tim has been married to Marion since 1978. They have two grown-up children and two grandchildren. Both Tim and Marion are involved in the worship team, with Marion singing and Tim playing drums. They moved to Seer Green from London in 1984. Tim came to a faith in the church aged 35. Marion was confirmed in the Anglican church in her early teens. Both were baptised at SGBC shortly after moving here as a symbol of their renewed faith and commitment. Tim is currently Church Secretary and oversees the legal and administrative functions in the church. Marion heads up the Mission Team.
Hilary O’Flanagan
Hilary is married to Sean and they have 2 grown up children and 1 grandson. Hilary was born and brought up in the village, and they have lived back in the village {after a short sojourn in London) for 35 years. Only another 15 and Sean can be considered a villager! After a successful career in the police Hilary became a school governor at the village school and served for a lengthy period as Chair of Governors. She also ran the local Brownie pack for 23 years. She took a qualification in early years childcare and enjoys a second career as a teaching assistant at a local school.
Hilary has been involved in the Baptist church since the age of 16, both making a commitment to follow Jesus and being baptised in the old chapel. She and Sean were involved in the vision and commitment to build the new church in the centre of the ‘new estate’. Hilary now serves on the diaconate with a special passion for the worship life of the church.
